Ebrahim Al Ghanim

Bahrain

Bahraini artist Ibrahim Al Ghanem draws his artistic vision from rare photographs he captured with his keen eye during his journey documenting daily life in the Manama Souq. He wandered through the old alleyways, capturing details that evoke the essence of the place and the warmth of memory, from the bustling cafes adorned with the faces of their patrons to the shops that have retained their traditional character despite the passage of time. His works reflect the spirit and history of the souq, highlighting the beauty of simplicity in scenes we often pass by without giving them due consideration. In his exhibition, “Manama Souq,” Al Ghanem presents a visual experience that revives these scenes with a contemporary artistic flair, blending the authenticity of the place with the sensitivity of color and line to offer the audience a visual narrative pulsating with life and heritage.

The artist’s works are distinguished by their meticulous attention to detail and masterful use of watercolors, lending the scenes both realism and warmth. This mastery leaves the viewer in awe of the painting, captivated by its vibrant life, translucent shadows, and subtle gradations of color—achievements only attainable through works executed with great sensitivity and a skilled hand.

Palm groves, the Manama souk, traditional boats, and the sea are fundamental elements that define the artist’s visual identity. These motifs form a constant axis in his work, reflecting his deep connection to the memory of the place and its authentic heritage.

Ibrahim Al-Ghanim is a distinguished watercolorist who has presented a remarkable artistic experience that has contributed to highlighting the features of the Bahraini environment through his paintings, which document the details of local life with realism and profound aesthetic sensibility. His works have garnered significant acclaim, culminating recently in his receiving the Sheikh Rashid bin Khalifa Al Khalifa Foundation for Fine Arts Award at the annual Fine Arts Exhibition.

It has been noted previously that Ibrahim Al-Ghanim’s works were displayed at prices low compared to their artistic value, which has influenced public appreciation of them. Upon reassessment and scrutiny of the prices, it became clear that the artist was extremely greedy, setting high prices that were not commensurate with the local art market, which negatively impacted the marketing of his works in general.
